Raised in the south, Dorothy
studied portraiture first with
Christopher
Clark and Constance Miller in Tampa. Then she was
fortunate enough to work for seven years with Roman and
Constantine Chatov in
Atlanta
all throughout the 70's. With that as a background, she has
continued to train with other notable artists whom she
admires and her work has become more and more about her own
personal expression.
"After years of representational work, my appreciation of
the abstract has become more and more what I'm interested
in. What is it that conveys an experience and recreates for
others those feelings? What is it that can engage another's
imagination and entertain their attention? I'm looking for
the unconscious in communication that sparks just before
one's mind starts dialogue. Then, of course, the
stories started, the interpretations are really endless."
Dorothy's paintings have been exhibited throughout the
United States and are in corporate and
private
collections in the US and
Europe.
A signature member of the Women's Caucus for the Arts, she's
a member of the
Oil Painters
of America and the Washington Ceramic Artists Association.
She's represented by Shack Gallery in Everett, UpFront
Gallery in Issaquah, Kirkland Art Center Store, Kirkland,
and White Bird Gallery in Cannon Beach.
She lives and maintains a studio in Redmond, WA where she
and her husband work, both collaboratively on
ceramic sculpture, and individually on paintings.
